Grant Yun (B. 1996) grew up in a household of artists and has been surrounded by art since childhood. While he has never taken a formal art class, he drew religiously all throughout his youth. Yun’s introduction into digital art began in college during his first year at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Having spent the prior decade drawing solely using physical mediums, he eventually turned to Microsoft PowerPoint and Apple Keynote to begin his digital practice. By utilizing the shapes tool and gradients, Yun was able to create convincing images with these elementary applications. After years of illustrating in PowerPoint, Yun moved to using Adobe Illustrator. Many of his self-taught techniques he continues to use today, taking individual shapes and manipulating them to create larger compositions. Through a style he calls “Vectorized Realism,” Yun tackles ideas that encompass philosophical and religious theory dating back to the 1900s, while simultaneously helping to shape the Web3 landscape for digital art for generations to come. Yun's ambition and motivation to create is thriving, as exemplified by his auction debut in Christie's 2023 Post-War & Contemporary Art Day Sale with his work Midwest, an iconic piece from his Midwest series. Yun has a continued presence at auctions and in collaborations with galleries and museums throughout the United States.
