Christie’s 3.0 presents David Salle’s ‘A Well-Leafed Tree’ (2021), available for immediate purchase.
Using his acclaimed ‘Tree of Life’ (2020–21) series as a source of inspiration, David Salle created his first tokenized-animated video that brings the unconscious of his paintings to the fore through a dynamic choreography of moving objects, painterly gestures and narrative elements. ‘A Well-Leafed Tree’ is animated based on Salle’s paintings inspired by Peter Arno’s New Yorker cartoons from the 1930s and ‘40s. The video was exhibited at the Brant Foundation in Greenwich, Connecticut from 16 November 2021 – April 2 2022 as part of a retrospective exhibition of Salle’s work.
